Panomino 2008

Friday Harbor Labs

September 3, 2008 – September 7, 2008

This meeting will bring together Pacific Northwest researchers, scientists, and engineers interested in microsystems, nanotechnology, and related topics for three days of lectures, discussions, and social events in the tranquil surrounds of San Juan Island. Participants will have ample opportunity to learn about the exciting work currently being performed in the Northwest, and to form new personal connections with the individuals behind this work. Thus, the purpose of the meeting is to strengthen existing ties between Northwest institutions and to foster new collaborations and large-scale research programs.

Panomino will include general sessions with lectures and posters, as well as special sessions focusing on the themes "self-assembly from nano to milli scales", "integrated biosystems", and "nanofiber technology". There will also be time for informal interactions during sailing, hiking, biking, beach combing, kayaking, or whale watching.

The University of Washington Friday Harbor Laboratory provides the ideal backdrop for this venue; meeting fees - especially for students - will be modest.

Support for Panomino 2008 is provided by the University of British Columbia, the University of Washington, the IEEE Seattle Section, and the US National Science Foundation.
